Love Like on the Big Screen
Watch, learn, love…
For those of us who have yet to find true love, romantic films are essential viewing. But rather than watching and yearning, we should be watching and learning. Each Hollywood love fest contains a lesson that can be applied when love comes around. For those who are already in love, they are a great excuse to snuggle in front of the TV and brush up on those romantic skills.
Titanic: The highest-grossing romantic film of all time. Obviously, we’d prefer our personal love stories to have a happier ending, but the romance that unfolds between the top and bottom deck of the doomed ship does teach us this: Look beyond the limits of your own social world and you find love in the unlikeliest places.
Gone with the Wind: Hear that noise? It’s not the burning of Atlanta, it’s the sound of two strong personalities colliding. Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh show how right it feels – and how wrong it can go - when a strong man and an even stronger woman fall in love. Our lesson learnt from this film is that some personalities just don’t match. The be2 personality test can help you avoid romantic disaster.
Sleepless in Seattle: You probably shouldn’t use your children as matchmakers, as Tom Hanks does in this classic romantic drama (that’s what be2 is for, people!), but you should keep in mind that kids are great judges of character and listen to what they have to say about your partner. If they love him/her as much as you do, you know there’s nothing to worry about!
Pretty Woman: Working as a prostitute, as Julia Roberts does in this chick flick, is not a common romantic fantasy. Being treated to a day’s shopping by a boyfriend, however, is. Follow that by a romantic meal at a nice restaurant and love might just be on the cards.
When Harry Met Sally: This romantic comedy shows that what you’re looking for could already be right in front of you – and that friendship can, eventually, turn into love.
An Affair to Remember: Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr make us cry, cry and cry throughout this mother of all romantic tear-jerkers. In the end, we know that pride is silly and true love overcomes all obstacles. Pass the tissues…
You’ve Got Mail: Meg Ryan does have a monopoly in this genre. But, short of becoming Meg Ryan, what can a girl do to make those romantic fantasies come true? Here, two New Yorker bookstore owners fall in love online – email by email. Well, if you’re a be2 member, you’ve already got this one nailed!
