Women for Nerds or Physics for Dummies (?)

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Trying to figure out the objective of this list comparing women to physical theories. Are the comparisons explaining physics or women? Are they explaining women in a language physics-nerds can understand?

a sample:
” Cosmology is the girl that doesn’t really date, but has lots of hot friends. Some people date cosmology just to hang out with her friends.”

So? Do you understand women now? Or physical theory?

Fail.

How to Attract Women with Humour

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

If you think that attractive men get all the beautiful women, then think again. A new study has shown you need to be more Ricky Gervais than Ricky Martin to attract women - with humour. A good sense of humour in general, and self-deprecating humour in particular, is the best way to attract women.

The ability to attract women with self-deprecating humour can be explained by evolutionary psychology. Just as attractive men and beautiful women have certain physical features that show them to be desirable mates, men with a good sense of humour demonstrate intelligence and creativity, while self-deprecating humour shows humility.

One reason to use humour to attract women is not mentioned in the study though. Even the most beautiful women have their hang-ups, but laughing will put them at ease - and a guy who can put a girl at ease seems attractive, whether he’s an attractive man or just a funny man.

Still Single? That’s not very Environmentally Friendly!!

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

Are you still single? Your single lifestyle doesn’t just affect you, your friends (and your parents, who finally want grandchildren,) it also affects the environment!

A study has shown that millions of still single Britons are preventing Britain from reaching its environmental goals, because their single lifestyle is so wasteful.

Although environmentally concious living is widespread, you only need to look at single lifestyles in cities to realise that these one-person households use a lot of energy and produce loads of rubbish.

One more good reason to look for someone to share your life with if you’re still single in the city!

Brunette Woman = Desirable Woman

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

The ideal image of a desirable woman since über-blonde Marilyn has remained unchanged – blonde and voluptuous.

Because desirable women often serve as arm candy for wealthy men, these get to pick the prettiest ladies, which is why our image of a millionaire’s wife has always been blonde and voluptuous.

Now it looks like it’s time for blondes to move over, because a desirable woman nowadays is a brunette woman. An analysis of the hair colour of the prettiest ladies on the arms of rich men revealed that most of them dark hair, leading to the equation „desirable woman = brunette woman.“

Blondes looking to „Marry a Millionaire“, should no longer look to Marilyn for inspiration, and go for a darker shade instead

Attractive Men are …attractive?

Breaking news! Women like flirting with attractive men!

Another study that throws all conventional wisdom overboard, forcing us to view flirting behaviour in a whole new light. We never would have guessed that women like to flirt with attractive men! Well, thank goodness for science that deals with such important flirting issues at length.

Else we would have asked our Grannies, they would have told us the same thing.

DNA-Matchmaking Has a Funny Smell

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Recently, we explained why we don’t want a relationship based on a partner’s great stare. You know what else sounds unappealing: a relationship based on a partner’s body odour. But that’s just what a new matchmaking service is offering.

Once again, this is an American brainchild. The matchmaking service (link: scientificmatch.com) wants to facilitate relationships by finding the partner with the best b.o. through a DNA analysis. Apparently, this will lead to a happy relationship and – hello Momzillas – improved progeny.

This matchmaking concept is based on a study that women are attracted to men whose DNA is different from their own, which is an advantage from an evolutionary point of view.

So far, so scientific, but it does sound a lot like tales from the genetical engineering lab. Most people don’t want a relationship with a partner with fantastic DNA, they want someone whose personality, interests and values are compatible with their own and someone they feel attracted to.

That’s a great basis for a successful relationship and it works without genetic testing.

Online Dating is a Great Way to Meet Singles - Fact!

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Of course singles don’t spend their every waking hour worrying about how and where they will meet men or women. However, for most singles, it’s an important issue. What’s the best way to meet men who are single and attractive? How can you meet women who are single and don’t want to stay that way?

Now, Glamour and GQ magazines got together to find the answer. They asked their readers the best way to meet men/women. Predictably, “through friends” and “at a party” came first and second, closely followed by “at work” (really? haven’t they heard that’s a really bad idea?) and “at a club” (ditto). However, online dating came in fifth place! (more…)

Personal Ads Then and Now

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Placing a personal ad online to find your perfect match doesn’t seem terribly innovative anymore these days. There are plenty of websites for personal ads and online matchmaking where you can seek and find your perfect match. The time of exclusively printed ads seems like ancient history already, but can you even imagine a time before personal ads? A time when the concept of personal ads was unheard of? A time where you had to rely on being introduced to your perfect match socially or resort to your spinster aunt’s amateur matchmaking?

Well, believe it or not, the first known personal ad was published a mere 281 years ago. (more…)
